About Pillora

Hi, nice to meet you!
I’m Jia Xin, founder of Pillora Learning and a full-time Math and Science tutor with a strong passion for teaching. I love helping students go "OHHH!" when concepts finally click and I am always finding ways to make learning simpler, clearer and more enjoyable.
I graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and was previously from Nanyang Junior College, Nan Hua High School, and Qifa Primary School.
Over the past five years, I have been teaching formally as a tutor, supporting students across Singapore both academically and beyond, and creating learning resources. But my teaching journey actually began much earlier.
Here’s My Story.

Bringing Science to Life Overseas
Volunteering in Cambodia and Cebu, Philippines, where my team and I brought Science to Life through hands-on science lessons and custom-created worksheets.

Mentoring with Teach Singapore
As part of Teach SG programme, I mentored students, taught Mathematics and organised enrichment activities.

Facilitating STEM Workshops in NUS
As part of NUS Young Educators in Science, I facilitated numerous STEM-related workshops such as Sci@Home, conducting hands-on experiments and explaining scientific concepts clearly to local and international students aged 10 to 19.

Teaching at Tuition Centres
I later joined established tuition centres run by ex-MOE teachers, where I refined my teaching methods, co-developed MOE-aligned Primary Math worksheets, and taught both Primary and Secondary levels.
Today, I am a full-time
Math & Science Tutor
As a private tutor under Pillora Learning, I offer Primary and Secondary Math and Science lessons. My lessons are designed to help students build strong foundations, simplify complex concepts and enjoy the learning process. Classes are kept small (1 to 3 students), and I take on a limited number of PSLE and Secondary 4 students each year to ensure focused guidance and consistent support.
Students often tell me my lessons are fun, clear and easy to follow, and that’s something I take pride in. Many of them also come to me for help beyond the subject, whether it is choosing subject combinations, planning study schedules or even some life advice.
I work closely with parents, keeping them updated and discussing approaches that suit each child’s learning style and needs. My goal is to support my students holistically, not just academically.

Challenges I Saw in Students
As I taught more students over the years and listened to their struggles, I began noticing recurring challenges that reminded me of my own learning journey. Students missed topics because of CCA or illness, felt shy to ask questions in class, or were simply unable to keep up when large classes moved too quickly. Sometimes, students only needed help with one topic instead of an entire tuition package. This inspired me to start Consultation Sessions to offer focused, one-off sessions that any student can book when needed.
I also came to realise that many students have uneven mastery across topics. Some topics are strong while others consistently remain weak, causing marks to be lost in the same few areas every exam. However, most free worksheets available online are only full papers, when what students truly need first is repeated, targeted practice for their weaker or forgotten topics.
Seeing this gap and noticing that many quality topical worksheets online were locked behind packages led me to start compiling and vetting Topical Worksheets, ensuring that they only contain exam-style questions and keeping them free or affordable on my website.
These shared challenges shaped the idea behind Pillora, and that is how Pillora Learning was born. The name “Pillora” comes from “Pillar” and “Plethora”, reflecting my aim to be a pillar of support while offering a wide range of resources to help students succeed.
